The 2008 Oakland Furniture Sale will be Friday, August 22nd- Sunday August 24th, from 10 am- 8 pm. Bring Your Friends! Reasonable Prices!   235 Atwood St, rear

Project Overview
Based upon past accumulation of recyclables in Oakland and adjacent communities identified in the Annual Oakland Dumpster debris removal project, OPDC launched a furniture-recycling program in April 2006. Throughout the summer, OPDC collected and stored about 350 items including used furniture as well as other household objects from various sources. Coinciding with student move-in at the end of August, OPDC established a resale venue where these itemswere resold to incoming students at costs that were reasonable, yet would keep the articles off the street and out of dumpsters and landfills.

Based on the overall demand for furniture and household necessities from students living off-campus, OPDC plans to continue the Furniture Recycling Project for years to come.

OPDC's 2007 Furniture Recycling Program and Sale was sponsored by a grant from the PNC Foundation. OPDC thanks PNC Bank, the PNC Foundation, as well as the Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development, for supporting our efforts and promoting the recycling of furniture and other reusable items in the Oakland area.

Second Annual Oakland Furniture Sale: Bigger and Better than the Last!

The Second-Annual Oakland Furniture Sale was held from Friday, August 24 through Sunday, August 26, 2007 in the cement courtyard area outside OPDC’s office located at the rear of 235 Atwood Street.  The Sale was even bigger and better than last year as we sold well over 400 items raising approximately $6,400 to be used to fund next year’s expenses for the Furniture Recycling Program.  Items that were available at the Sale included: dressers, desks, kitchen tables, chairs, couches, shelves and lamps.  56 volunteers helped out throughout the entire weekend, acting as sales associates, moving furniture out of storage and onto the truck that transported the furniture to the location of the sale.  In addition, volunteers helped clean and arrange items on the sales floor, manned the cash register and assisted on deliveries.  OPDC would like to thank all those volunteers who worked so hard throughout the weekend; you truly helped make the Oakland Furniture Sale a success! We are already looking forward to the 2008 Furniture Collection and Sale!
